Day 6 - Everyday Chemistry Workshop

On Friday, April 30, the students were chemists at EPCOT, working in hands-on activities in the Everyday Chemistry workshop. The students created polymers, made goop, and discovered how our natural resources, like fossil fuels, become things that we use today like plastics. It is all a product of chemical reactions. Students developed a greater depth of this knowledge by participating in the hands-on activities and riding on Ellen's Energy Adventure. Students also got to ride on Test-Track, a high speed vehicle simulation in which our young scientists got to test out the importance of safety precautions for vehicles. Did you know that Test Track is actually the fastest and longest ride inside the parks of Walt Disney World?!? Students also interviewed their country ambassador for their country Power Point presentations. Several students took pictures in their country and uploaded the pictures and questions to their Power Point presentations. Students discovered the wonders, architectural styles, and culture of all of the countries showcased at EPCOT! We traveled "around the world" in a day!

  1. I absolutly loved Soarin'!!! I totally forgot they added smell too!!! Test Track made me sweat-litterly! It was so cool how we made the slime!!! The leader of the work shop didn't have time to show my group how to make it at home, but it was still fun.Ava

  4. This was a great workshop. I liked doing Test Track (tottaly awesome!) and making the goop. Everybody wanted to keep the goop, but Mrs.Herbert said no. Ellen's Energy Adventure was awesome. It was funny when she said no eating or drinking in Ellen's Dream. Also, when I interveiwed my Ambassedor I got a paper crane! It was fun!

  6. Thank you for the review of Everyday Chemistry. I am considering enrolling my 5th grade daughter in that program during the individual enrollment period this coming September. I am having a difficult time finding any reviews of the program, or any details.

    1. I have taken my fourth graders each year to the YES program workshops and they love them. The best are the Properties of Motion, Energy and Waves, and Everyday Chemistry. They are worth it. Properties of Motion and Energy and Waves allows the students to do more behind the scenes than the others. Let me know if you want more info.
